For many years, the black-winged kite was believed to be extinct within the country's borders, with only rare sightings reported. However, in the 1990s, a single pair established the first nest in decades, selecting the Hula Valley as their new habitat. Since then, their numbers have steadily increased, and they now represent a stable, resident population.
